Nations and Freedoms, Indeed

Much deserved, and much-deserved, concentration on the fact that Janice Atkinson has allied herself to Marine Le Pen, Geert Wilders and the heirs of Jörg Haider, entitling them to €17.5 million of public money.

But at least as notable is her alliance with the Polish Congress of the New Right.

Not for nothing was that party given that name by its founder and leader, Janusz Korwin-Mikke, who is a Holocaust-questioning opponent of women's suffrage (but admirer of Margaret Thatcher) and advocate of wife-beating.

Korwin-Mikke was an underground translator and circulator of Friedrich Hayek's The Road to Serfdom and of Milton Friedman's Capitalism and Freedom. He met Friedman, who praised him in his memoirs.

From such roots have grown the view of Robert Iwaszkiewicz that the public ought not to see the disabled on television. Of course.

Thanks to the EU, such people are our legislators. You should have listened to Jeremy Corbyn.
