Officers of the Court

Farewell, then, to the Crown Prosecution Service.

It is very likely indeed to be abolished by the next Parliament. Which way will Sir Keir Starmer MP vote?

The danger is that prosecution will be transferred to solicitors who are either Police civilian staff or sworn Police Officers.

That would compound the sense of the Police as a militarised body apart from civilian society at large.

Instead, we need to return to the historical norm whereby any firm of local solicitors simply built prosecution work into its overall workload, and always had at least one partner whose specialisms included it.
