Any Port In A Storm?

And so, David Cameron is not to participate in a debate that, at his insistence, is to feature at least two protagonists, Nicola Sturgeon and Leanne Wood, who will not be candidates at the General Election that will be the subject of that debate.

Speaking of debates, I have been regaled with tales of Port and Policy, the legendary events organised by Oxford University Conservative Association on motions to free the slaves, to give women the vote, or what have you, in order to enjoy arguing against such measures.

People attend in black tie, in white tie and tails, in black tie with red trousers, and so on. The Lib Dems bring bingo cards featuring catchphrases. Sobriety is frowned upon, or would be, if anyone attempted it. There is plenty of "Shame! Shame!" and "Sound! Sound!". At the end, Jerusalem is sung, along with I Vow To Thee, My Country and the rest of those classics.

Ed Balls attended every one of them during his time at Oxford.

Never let it be said that the Right failed to contribute to the gaiety of the nation. That is its proper role.

There ought to be Tories, including Kippers while there were any, in the way that there ought to be Gypsies. But one would not want the country to be run by the Gypsies. Nor would one want the country to be run by the Tories. Including by the Kippers, while there were any.
