Not Blinded By The Sand

It is not every day that even I have lunch in a castle with a prince (who used to be Prime Minister of Kuwait). To there from my old Sixth Form Common Rooom is about eight miles. Or the whole world, depending on how you look at it.

I was there for the excellent half-day conference on the Asianisation of the Middle East, to launch the His Highness Sheikh Nasser al Mohammad al-Sabah Programme at the School of Government and International Affairs. Very Durham. Very, very, very Durham indeed. And even more so when complete with His Highness Sheikh Nasser al Mohammad al-Sabah himself.

All sorts of important points were made, but one in particular stuck in my mind. The South Koreans were awarded the contract to build the nuclear power stations in the United Arab Emirates. In other words, the oil-rich Emirates are developing civil nuclear power. In which case, why may not oil-rich Iran develop civil nuclear power?
