    Maybe people want to read his book?

    I mean, I'm no psychologist, but that would seem like a pretty good reason to buy the thing. Maybe they're more interested in reading his book than donating to the British Legion. Maybe they already donate to the British Legion. Maybe they are the British Legion.

    Well, this seems like a pretty desperate stunt to get anyone to buy his book, if so many people already wanted to read it.

    It's not a stunt to get people to buy his book.

    It's a stunt to stop people thinking he's cashing in.

    That's a little mean.

    Anyhow, if you want to donate to the British Legion, you should do that, regardless of whether buying a particular book you don't actually want to read would also achieve the same effect. Conversely, if you want to read the book you should buy it.

    But what should you do if you want to read the book but don't want to donate to the Legion?
